Bulldog Players Report Thursday (Aug. 6)
SC State to Begin Defense of its MEAC Crown




Football Update

Orangeburg, SC – South Carolina State will begin preparing for the 2009 football season Thursday, Aug. 6, when players report to the campus for orientation, team seminars and physicals.
The Bulldogs, the defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champions, will hold their first practice -- in shorts and helmets only – Friday at 3:10 p.m., following morning physicals if needed. Single workouts will also be held Saturday through Tuesday (Aug. 8-11) at 3:10 p.m., with Tuesday’s practice being the first workout in full gear.
Two-a-day practices, on an alternating basis, are set to start Wednesday, Aug. 12. The morning practice is scheduled for 8:30 and the evening drill at 6:50.
SC State will hold its annual “Press and Picture Day” Saturday, Aug. 15, beginning at 9 a.m. at Oliver C. Dawson Bulldog Stadium, then conduct its first scrimmage at 3:00 p.m.
The team’s annual “Meet the Players Day,” sponsored by The STATE Club, will be held August 22nd at 12 noon and will be preceded by the second preseason scrimmage at 9 a.m.
The Bulldogs, the MEAC’s preseason pick in 2007 and 2008, and a contender for the honor this year, open their 11-game 2009 schedule Sept. 6 against Grambling in the 5th ESPN MEAC/SWAC Challenge in Orlando, Florida in a 2 p.m. contest. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
Coach Buddy Pough, who begins his seventh season at the helm of the SC State football team, and his Bulldogs open their home schedule Sept. 26 against Winston-Salem State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
