SC State Football Practice Brief

SC State Football Practice Brief
Bulldogs Don Full Pads for First Time

ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State worked out it full pads for the first time Tuesday and the Bulldogs got a break in the weather as an afternoon stormed moved through the area and cooled things off considerably and creating an enthusiastic and lively session, according to Coach Buddy Pough.
“It was our first day in full pads and I count it as a good day, not bad,” Pough said. “And, it was a pretty good day to workout as we got a break in the weather when a storm moved through.
“The storm delayed our starting time,” he continued, “But the players appeared to appreciate the cooler weather and really showed their enthusiasm. “It turned out to be a good productive session and even got a little lively with a lick exchanged here or there.”
Pough said his squad devoted a part of Tuesday’s drill to executing waist-up drills in the team game and goal line situations.
“I was pleased with the way we worked. There were a couple of guys who appear to be coming to the forefront and will be able to help us. (Running back) Chris Massey and (freshman DT) Leon Smith did a good for us.”
SC State conducts its first two-a-day drill Wednesday, with the morning practice set for 8:30 and the afternoon session at 6:50.
An NCAA on Campus film crew will pay a visit to the 8:30 a.m. practice to do a feature story on Bulldog senior running back Will Ford, one of the top running backs in the nation and among the elite runners on the prestigious Payton Watch List, from which the top offensive player in the nation will chosen.
The 30-minute NCAA on Campus show, which highlights NCAA student-athletes and competitions, will air Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 9 p.m. on CBS College Sports and be rebroadcast each Tuesday in Sept. at the same time. CBS College Sports is an HD cable network on Ch. 150 on Time Warner Cable, Ch. 152 on Dish and Ch. 613 on Direct TV.
