2014 Hall of Fame Class Announced

Eleven Individuals and Two Teams to be Enshrined ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State will induct eleven new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame during a banquet Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. The university will also enshrine two teams. The 2014 class includes Willie Mays Aiken (Baseball 1974-75), Michael Hicks (Football 1993-95), Kenneth Brown (Track & Field 1974-77), Charles Burgess (Football 1974-77), Martin Roache (Golf 1988-92), Dr. Christopher Mazoué/ Dr. Stefan Montgomery (Contributors 2003-present) ,Jermaine Derricott (Football 1994-98), Leroy Robinson (Football 1976-80), Sandra Gadsden (Basketball 1978-81), and Rudolph Bryant (Football 1976-80). Teams to be inducted are the 1979-80 swimming team and the 1983 women’s basketball championship team. The 1979-80 SC State Aquadogs led by George Jordan and Bulldog Hall of Famer Ross McConahey amassed 441 points to capture the Third Annual National Black Swimming and Diving Championships, after being runners-up the two previous years. The 1983 Women’s Basketball Team finished the regular season only 13-7, second in the MEAC, but went on to win the MEAC Title and earn the league’s automatic berth to the Division I Basketball Championship. Banquet tickets may be purchased for $50.00 per person or $450.00 for a table of 10. Game tickets are $30.00 general admission, $35.00 reserved and $15.00 youth 17 and under.
