Unique Whitehurst named Miss Homecoming 2015.
The Long Beach, California beauty, whose smile radiates as bright as the California sunshine, says she looks forward to her ceremonial role as Miss Homecoming 2015.

"I want this week to be filled with high spirits and positive energy," says Whitehurst, a junior psychology major.

Whitehurst believes her enthusiasm and zeal to demonstrate Bulldog Pride during Homecoming week is what helped her to capture the number of votes needed by members of the SC State Bulldog football team to wear the Homecoming crown.

Her understanding of the life of an athlete and the pride that one must demonstrate on and off the field might have also influenced her win. Whitehurst plays the position of infield on the university's women's softball team.

An Honors student, she boasts a 4.0 GPA. Whitehurst is a well-rounded student and is a proud member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Honor's College, Peer W.A.T.C.H. D.O.G. Mentoring Program and the Health Professions Society.

Though Whitehurst was recruited to attend the university because of her dynamic athletic abilities and strong academic performance, she says her first official visit to the Orangeburg campus is what sealed the deal for her. She fell in love with the warm family-like environment. Wanting to experience southern culture was also a plus.

Whitehurst, who is known to be outgoing and daring, took her confidence to one of America's most popular game shows this past summer. The competitive Whitehurst appeared on "Let's Make a Deal" and advanced through the show eventually winning a vehicle.

Whitehurst is excited and honored to represent the university as Miss Homecoming 2015. For this young woman, winning just seems to be a natural way of life for her.
