Bulldogs Take On ACC Foe No. 7 Clemson

CLEMSON, SC—The South Carolina State Bulldogs will face their biggest challenge of the to season when they take on nationally-ranked powerhouse No. 7 Clemson Saturday (Sept. 11th) at Memorial Stadium (81,000). Kick-off is 5 p.m. (EST)


THE SERIES: Clemson leads the series 3-0, with the last time the two teams met on the gridiron the Tigers prevailed 59-0 (9/7/16) at home.

BULLDOG BITES:

South Carolina State finished the spring season with a 3-1 overall, 2-0 MEAC record.

Head coach Buddy Pough the Winningest Coach in School History is entering his 20th season at the helm with an 136-75 overall record. He has coached the Bulldogs to seven (7) MEAC Championships during his tenure.

SC State was picked to finish 1st in the Preseason MEAC Race; Nine Bulldogs were named to the Preseason All-MEAC Team.

Three Bulldogs Named to the BCFHOF Player of the Year Watch list in seniors Chad Gilchrist (LB), Decobie Durant (DB) and Shaquan Davis (WR).

Graduate defensive back Decobie Durant named to the FCS Stats Preseason All-American Team as well as being name Preseason MEAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Former SC State standout and All-Pro defensive back Donnie Shell was inducted in the National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame. He is the fourth(4th) Bulldog to earn the prestigious honor.

Former Bulldog standout and All-Pro Robert Porcher was among five honorees inducted into the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame.

LAST TIMEOUT

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Corey Fields, Jr. finished 14-of-28-2 for 213-yards and a touchdown. Fields added nine (9) rushes for 89-yards and a score in the loss.

 Shaquan Davis added a team-high five (5) catches for 140-yards and a touchdown

Redshirt freshman Kendrell Flowers  14 carries for 80—yards and three (3) touchdowns. Graduate running back Alex James finished with 13 carries for 73-yards.


Special teams performed extremely well with Rakim White exciting the crowd with 106 All-Purpose yards to go along with freshman punter Dyson Roberts five (5) punts for 167-yards (33.4 yards per punt) with a long of 42-yards.


The Bulldog offense finished with 455-yards total offense including 242 rushing yards and 268 passing.


BJ Davis led the charge on defense with and senior linebacker Chad Gilchrist finished with a team-high 10 tackles each.
