SC State Falls Short On The Road In Season Opener




NORMAL, AL—Redshirt sophomore quarterback Corey Fields, Jr. finished 14-of-28-2 for 213-yards and a touchdown, while Shaquan Davis added a team-high five (5) catches for 140-yards and a touchdown, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State dropped its season opener, 42-41, to Alabama A&M Saturday (Sept. 4th) at Louis Crews Stadium.

Redshirt freshman Kendrell Flowers posted a solid day running the ball with 14 carries for 80—yards and three (3) touchdowns. Fields added nine (9) rushes for 89-yards and a score in the loss. Graduate running back Alex James finished with 13 carries for 73-yards.

Special teams performed extremely well with Rakim White exciting the crowd with 106 All-Purpose yards to go along with freshman punter Dyson Roberts five (5) punts for 167-yards (33.4 yards per punt) with a long of 42-yards.

The Bulldog offense finished with 455-yards total offense including 242 rushing yards and 268 passing.

BJ Davis led the charge on defense with a team-high eight (8) tackles, while senior linebacker Chad Gilchrist added seven (7).

Next up South Carolina State travel to take on nationally ranked Clemson Saturday (Sept. 11th) in Death Valley. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
